Do braces hurt?

One thing people worry about most when getting braces is whether or not it is going to hurt. Braces can cause slight discomfort at first, but everyone’s pain tolerance is different. We recommend taking Ibuprofen as needed for a few days after having braces put on. After a week or so, you will not even notice that they are there.

How often do I come in for visits?

We typically see patients every 4-8 weeks for orthodontic adjustments.

What do the rubber bands do?

The rubber bands or “elastics” align your bite and jaw position during orthodontic treatment. In order to get your braces off on time, it is important to wear your elastics as directed by the doctor and assistants.

How long do I have to wear my retainers?

Retainers are a lifetime commitment! You should wear your retainers for the rest of your life.

Do I still need to see my dentist while I am in braces?

Yes! Dr. Witherow actually recommends that you see your dentist every 3-4 months while in braces. Dr. Witherow and your general dentist will work together throughout treatment to ensure you have a happy, healthy smile.
